Routledge Education Author of the Month December 2010: Kevin Kumashiro

Kevin Kumashiro was recently Chair of the Department of Educational Policy Studies and interim Co-Director of the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is now a professor in the newly launched Asian American Studies program, where he is also the principal investigator of a $1.9 million U.S. Department of Education grant to support the academic success of historically underserved populations of Asian American and Pacific Islander students in higher education. He has just begun his term (2010-2012) as president-elect of the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME), and will follow Christine Sleeter as president, 2012-2014. His research, teaching, and activism are redefining the field of "anti-oppressive education" as he develops new approaches to addressing issues of social justice in schools.
