Routledge Education Author of the Month August 2011: William F. Pinar

The former President of the International Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies, Pinar has keynoted at each of the Association’s triennial meetings. He has lectured widely – from the University of Chicago, Harvard University, McGill University, the Universities of Alberta, Oslo, Zurich, and Tokyo to the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In 2005, Pinar was named Professor and Canada Research Chair at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Before moving to the University of British Columbia in 2005, William F. Pinar served as the St. Bernard Parish Alumni Endowed Professor at Louisiana State University, where he was named Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year in 2000. He has also served as the Frank Talbott Professor at the University of Virginia and the A. Lindsay O’Connor Professor of American Institutions at Colgate University.

The first edition of What Is Curriculum Theory? won an Outstanding Book Award from Division B of the American Educational Research Association. Pinar has conducted groundbreaking work in international studies: the International Handbook of Curriculum Research appeared in 2003, Curriculum Studies in South Africa in 2010, Curriculum Studies in Brazil in 2011, and Curriculum Studies in Mexico will appear this November. He is also known for his pioneering work on race and gender: Queer Theory in Education appeared in 1998, The Gender of Racial Violence and Politics in America in 2001, Race, Religion, and a Curriculum of Reparation in 2006. The Worldliness of a Cosmopolitan Education was published by Routledge in 2009.
